Hiking Pants and Leggings
When it comes to hiking and outdoor activities, having the right gear is crucial. One essential piece of gear is a good pair of pants. But with so many options on the market, it can be challenging to find the right pair that ticks all the boxes. Whether you like leggings, a lightweight or heavier pant, I will give some of my favorite options for your Pacific Northwest hiking needs, as well as give some advice on rain and snow pants.
First up are the Outdoor Research Ferrosi hiking pants. These pants are not only great for hiking but also for day-to-day wear. They are made from a lightweight, stretchy material that allows for easy movement. The pants have a boot cut design and deep pockets, which is unusual for women's pants. Additionally, they have a drawstring and a zippable pocket, making them very functional. They come in women's and men's styles and you can choose from a variety of different colors.
Next, we have the Kühl Kultivator hiking pants, which are more of an everyday wear type of pants, but I have worn them hiking especially on colder days. They have a khaki-like material and are incredibly stretchy, making them very comfortable. They have a drawstring, two front pockets, and pockets in the back. They only come in a women's cut and you can choose from 7 colors (mine in the picture are in the color Pavement). Finally, we have the Outdoor Vitals Satu Adventure pants, which are a perfect combination of the Kühl and Outdoor Research pants. They are made from a lighter weight khaki-like material but are still stretchy and really great for hiking and backpacking. They have a cinch belt, a side pocket, and a hook for your trail runners. Outdoor Vitals thinks of all the details, so these pants have a nice side vent that allows for breathability and cooling. The Satu Adventure pants for women are on sale until they run out and will be discontinued after that, but the men's Satu pants are always available. |
Moving on to leggings, the Lululemon Align leggings are a popular choice for hiking (and my personal favorite). They come in a perfect thickness for hiking. They are high-rise, but they don't feel too tight or constricting, and the length of the full length Align's is perfect for covering your ankles in the winter time.
The Under Armour Meridian Cold Weather Leggings and the 90 Degree by Reflex Fleece Lined Leggings are both great choices for hiking when it is cold out. If it is raining, I wear my leggings with the Zpacks Vertice Rain Pants (they come in men's and women's sizes). I like these because they are so breathable and lightweight so you don't get soaked from sweat when you're wearing them. I recommend sizing down in these as they run quite large and they are wide legged and have a drawstring. For me when it comes to finding the right hiking and outdoor pants, it is essential to look for materials that are stretchy, lightweight, and breathable. The waistband should be adjustable with a drawstring, because that typically makes things much more comfortable. |
